Islands High School will once again host Veterinary Science Invitational CDE. It will be held on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 at Oatland Island Wildlife Center in Savannah, GA.

*New this year:
1. We will be adding a Junior Division for grades 6-9
2. The contest will start later to allow more travel time for chapters coming from the North and South Regions. Teachers may still bring their students early (or stay late) and tour the animal exhibits at Oatland on their own.

The purpose of the Veterinary Science Career Development Event is to promote college and career readiness by providing opportunities to develop technical knowledge and demonstrate practical skills in the field of veterinary science.

A. Participants will demonstrate professional ethics, decision-making, communication and problem-solving skills.

B. Participants will demonstrate technical competency with small and large animals in the areas of:
1. Anatomy and physiology
2. Clinical procedures
3. Identification
4. Health and safety
5. Medical terminology

This event is open to students in grades 6-12 who are agricultural education students, and are paid members of a chartered FFA chapter. Each member of the team must be a member of the chapter registering them, and each student’s name must appear on the chapter’s FFA roster at least 10 days prior to competition above the chapter level.

The Islands FFA Chapter will be hosting the third annual Veterinary Science Invitational Career Development Event!

Please read the following details concerning the event:
  • The Veterinary Science CDE will take place on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Fort Valley State University. This coincides with the FFA CDE Day events at FVSU.
  • Registration will be at 3:30pm. Contest starts at 4:00 pm.
  • Attached are guidelines for the event. National FFA updated their guidelines this year so a few changes were necessary. Please review the identification lists and practicums for both the junior and senior contests.
  • We will announce award winners following the competition. Scorecards will be returned to advisors after awards presentation. Advisors and their students can then walk through the contest and judges will be on hand to answer any questions or demonstrate any practicums. We want this to be a learning experience for all!
  • Registration is now available. The registration deadline is Friday, January 19th
